New Podcast | Past Matters, “The Queen of the Bluestockings”

, ,

Hello! I recently had a wonderful chat with the lovely Ploy Radford of the Past Matters Podcast about one of my favourite eighteenth century women, Elizabeth Montagu. Montagu was the so-called Queen of the Bluestocking Circle, a group of intellectuals – both men and women! – who often met in her London home.

You can listen below, and anywhere you get your podcasts!

  1. Just finished reading Bluestockings, The First Women’s Movement… by Susannah Gibson. dazzling salons, engaimng, very readable, including details of the 18th C bluestocking community in the village outside Bath where I used to ,live – Batheaston., They had an admirable policy of employing people who had disabilities. ..

No bluestockings in my family ! – More likely to have worked in coal mines or breweries – source of the wealth behind two illustrious ladies.
