Two hundred years ago today, the poet John Keats passed away in Rome.

Welcome to History Lizzie!

It’s lovely to meet you! I’m Dr Lizzie Rogers, a historian of gender, country houses and collecting. I also love writing about museums, art, books and period drama… find all those things, and more, here on my blog! I am always interested in discussing new ideas and projects – read more about my research here, and don’t forget to get in touch with me here.

Happy 78th birthday to George Harrison, born #onthisday in 1943! ⠀
It’s Renoir’s 180th birthday tomorrow (but I have another #onthisday post to share too!) so here is an early post on him and my favourite of his paintings, “The Umbrellas”… (all those shades of blue are so wonderful!)⠀
Dressing up to work at home with this vintage scarf I’m now probably going to wear every day in my hair (regardless of whether it matches anything else) from @thefutureonforsyth 👑

This weekend - relaxing and reading with Cleo ❤️📖
Spotted whilst on dogsitting duty: just this very cute house with very lovely blue shutters. Also it feeds into my favourite thing to do with Cleo: spotting the date plaques on the houses around Savannah’s Historic District. They normally mean a house has been at some point saved by Historic Savannah Foundation (which was started by the saving of Davenport House Museum from being demolished in the 1950s... maybe I should share a post on this!). The plaque on this beautiful house dates it to 1860 🏡
