What if Darcy never wrote the letter to Elizabeth after she rejected the proposal? Monica Fairview's novel explores just this, and throws a second chance at one of the best-loved fictional couples.

Welcome to History Lizzie!

It’s lovely to meet you! I’m Dr Lizzie Rogers, an historian of the eighteenth century. I’m particularly interested in gender, objects, learning, collecting and country houses. I also love writing about museums, art, books and period drama… find all those things, and more, here on my blog! I am always interested in discussing new ideas and projects – read more about my research here, and don’t forget to get in touch with me here.

Happy #WomensHistoryMonth! My love of learning about the lives of women goes back to joining @girlguiding aged 5 as a Rainbow, and has carried through to becoming a historian of women, collecting and country houses in the eighteenth century.
Rounding off a month of not just Jane Austen, but “Pride and Prejudice”, with a blog about rereading the novel 📖 find the link in my bio!
Le déjeuner sur l’herbe (avec Cleo) 🌿🐶 or, when you accidentally make a (fully-dressed) version of a Manet painting...
Thank you to everyone who joined us for a Q&A session about Jane Austen, “Pride and Prejudice” and country houses this afternoon ❤️ I had so much fun and am so grateful for all the questions, and to the exceptionally lovely @emmarosalia, Andy McInnes and to Edgehill University for having me ❤️ and yes I did wear gold sparkly shoes and a vintage dress to join in from home, I got far too excited 😂📖
Happy 78th birthday to George Harrison, born #onthisday in 1943! ⠀
It’s Renoir’s 180th birthday tomorrow (but I have another #onthisday post to share too!) so here is an early post on him and my favourite of his paintings, “The Umbrellas”… (all those shades of blue are so wonderful!)⠀
