I am thrilled to invite you to come and join me for a talk about Jane Austen and women’s lives in Georgian England at Bowood House and Gardens, Wiltshire.
Jane Austen’s insights into the lives of women in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries are absolutely fascinating. In all honesty, my love for this period stemmed from a childhood spent watching and reading her work (watching first… I’m looking at you Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle).
I’m so pleased that to celebrate Austen’s 250th birthday, we are hosting these talks, plus a trail and afternoon tea, at Bowood, where I am curator and archivist. Bowood has its own special connection to Austen: the 2nd Marquess of Lansdowne was Austen’s landlord in Southampton.
Please come and join us on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st September. You can find all the details, plus our other activities available that weekend, on Bowood’s website.
